Joining our team at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument provides the opportunity to experience a remarkable and unique representation of the Sonoran Desert. Campground Assistants work as a team with campground hosts and provide a stellar camping experience for our visitors with clean and well maintained campsites.
Joining our team at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument provides the opportunity to experience a remarkable and unique representation of the Sonoran Desert. Three species of columnar cactus grow here: the iconic Saguaro, the Sentia, and of course, our namesake cactus the Organ Pipe. This is the only place in the United States where the Organ Pipe Cactus grows in concentration and the northernmost reach of its range. The monument includes a diverse community of plants, animals, fabulous night skies and extensive opportunities to hike and explore desert wilderness.
Staff and visitors are awed by the remote beauty and quiet solitude of this vast desert landscape.
While Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is a remarkable place to live and work, it does have Its challenges. Visitation is concentrated during our high season from January through mid-April. Campgrounds can reach near capacity by March with high demand for sites of specific types and sizes.
Patience, tact, and empathy are key to successful operations at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.
Campground Operations:
Twin Peaks Campground is located approximately 2 miles from the Kris Eggle Visitor Center. There are 34 tent-only sites and 174 sites for RV’s and car camping. A few sites can accommodate RV’s up to 45’ in length. Generator use is only in sites 1-112 during designated hours.. Generator use is not permitted in sites 113-208. There are also 5 group campsites located a short distance away from the main campground. Hookups for electrical, water and sewer is not available for visitors. Restrooms have running water and solar showers. A dump station with potable water is located past the last row of campsites. The amphitheater is nearby and accessible. Camping fees are $20.00 per site per night.

A Day in the Life of a Twin Peaks Campground Assistant:
- Work as a team with campground hosts.
- Welcome and orient campers.
- Help campers locate their campsites.
- Provide information and orientation about programs, activities, hikes, and drives.
- Provide information and orientation about the location of services outside the monument.
- Educate campers on campground regulations.
- Report maintenance, potential safety hazards, and guest issues to supervisor.
- Identify campground regulation and compliance violations and report, accordingly, remembering that volunteers informs, park staff enforces.
- Maintain written log of occurrences under these categories and turn in to supervisor weekly.
- Assist interpretive rangers during night sky events, moonlight hikes, and evening programs.
- Roving the campground throughout the day.
- Conduct compliance checks of campground users to ensure proper payment and space type/size occupancy.
- Clean and maintain vacated Twin Peaks and group campsites daily: raking, sweeping, clean grills, trim vegetation, pick up litter, minor maintenance.
- Track occupancy reports and coordinate with fee rangers.
- Assist fee staff with campsite tags as directed.
- Live their best life in a desert paradise.
- Campground Assistants must work well with people, be personable and neat in appearance. Because campground assistants work independently, they must know how to interact with visitors in a calm and professional manner yet know when to take steps to contact local law enforcement for additional help when a situation requires it.
Applicants should be able to do the following:
- Work a minimum of 32 hours per week and no more than 40 hours per week.
- Operate a government vehicle safely.
- Practice and provide exemplary customer service.
- Work independently.
- Communicate with visitors (English language and non-English speaking).
- Communicate with team.
- Be a team-member.
- Respond with patience, tact, and empathy.
- Safety ethic.
- Wear volunteer uniform and name badge in accordance with polices.
- Follow standard operating procedures and directions.
- Pass non-federal employee background investigation (required).Valid state issued driver’s License required.

Other Favorable Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with visitors/customers
- Familiarity with campground operations and RV lifestyles
