DESCRIPTION:
Gulf Islands National Seashore is seeking to fill up to 10 campground host positions at both Fort Pickens and Davis Bayou campgrounds.
Gulf Islands National Seashore is seeking to fill up 10 campground hosts at Fort Pickens Campground and Davis Bayou Campground. Fort Pickens Campground is located on a barrier island between the Gulf of Mexico and Pensacola Bay, a short distance south of Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, Florida. Davis Bayou is located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Campground hosts work 32 hours per week from April 1- July 31, 2022 or August 1- November 30, 2022. Host duties include: greeting and assisting visitors by answering questions, explaining regulations, assisting visitors locate their campsite, and performing light maintenance and cleanup around the campground. Hosts will not be required to handle any law enforcement issues. All violations to the local dispatch and law enforcement rangers will be contacted.
Park staff will provide training and support in duties. Hosts perform duties independently without direct supervision. Staff will make regular contact to provide support, heavy maintenance, and regulatory compliance. An RV pad with hookups will be provided.
In your application, please state which campground you are interested in volunteering at (Fort Pickens Campground or Davis Bayou Campground) and what tour of duty you would like (April 1- July 31, 2022 or August 1- November 30, 2022).
- Greet and assist visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude. Answer questions, explain regulations which apply to them to gain compliance, and assist campers in locating a campsite.
- Perform light maintenance work around the campground such as litter pickup, cleaning and stocking of restrooms.
- Keep park staff updated on any issues regarding campers, campsite facilities, or maintenance needs.
- Report any law enforcement issues to law enforcement (dispatch).
- Maintain a neat, clean, and organized host site as an example to visitors.
- Represent Gulf Islands National Seashore and the National Park Service in a professional and courteous manner.
- Friendly and outgoing personality with good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform light maintenance work in outdoor conditions.
- Interact with a diversity of visitors while maintaining a positive, helpful, and non-confrontational attitude.
- Ability to serve independently without direct supervision.
