DESCRIPTION:
Volunteer will assist the Interpretive Division with distance learning (virtual) education programs and on and off-site programs. Currently, only distance learning is being done due to Covid-19, but this may change in the future.
The volunteer in this position will assist with instruction of school groups through the current virtual distance learning programs, and in the future conducting education programs with those groups visiting Casa Grande Ruins. Must be able to walk around the grounds in warm weather, stand up to 60 minutes while conducting virtual programs, or in the future, directing students throughout the day.
Time Commitment: The volunteer will work on average 2-3 hours per school group, although additional time may be requested. Volunteers living in CAGR RV Park are required to be available 32 hours per week. Casa Grande Ruins or the volunteer may cancel their agreement at any time by notifying the other party.
Uniforms: A khaki or tan colored shirt or blouse with a volunteer patch, ball cap and nametag supplied by the Monument will be worn while on duty. Brown, tan or beige pants in a complementary color will be supplied by the volunteer and worn with the volunteer shirt. For non-visitor contact duties or duties that may soil the uniform, the volunteer may be granted permission to wear other than the standard uniform on a case by case basis.
Supervision and Evaluation: The volunteer will be officially supervised by the park education lead ranger. Technical and evaluation recommendations will be provided by the staff member responsible for the project, with Volunteer in Parks Program oversight by the Volunteer Coordinator.
Volunteer will assist the lead education ranger with conducting distance learning school programs. When in person programs are available again, the volunteer will assist with on and off-site programs for school groups.
Volunteers with education backgrounds are requested. Also the ability to speak to the public and assist with programs and events involving school groups.

The position is for volunteers at Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in the city of Coolidge, AZ, in the Sonoran Desert. The position is November to May, with possible opportunities to continue volunteering throughout the year. Temperatures during the year range from lows in the 30’s in Winter, to highs in the 100’s during Summer.
