Camp host(s) are expected to camp on site through the season and provide general oversight and management of the facility, provide information to visitors, and coordinate with Forest Service staff on a frequent basis.
Medicine Lake Recreation Area is nestled along Medicine Lake in the Medicine Lake Highlands Area in northeastern California. The Recreation Area is located in the Modoc National Forest at an elevation of 6,770 feet. The Recreation Area is comprised of four separate campgrounds and offers camping, boating, fishing and swimming. The Recreation Area lies adjacent to the Medicine Lake Lava Flow which is accessible by a short hike. The Glass Mountain and Burnt Lava Flow Geologic Area are located within a 15-minute drive. Nearby attractions include Lavas Beds National Monument which is located within a half-hour drive and includes lava caves and tubes. The Tulelake National Wildlife Refuge is located with an hour’s drive where many types of migratory waterfowl can be viewed.
The facility includes campsites which vary from somewhat rugged with limited parking space to larger areas suitable for recreation vehicles. Facilities include vault toilets, water hydrants and garbage dumpsters. Campsites include a picnic table, fire ring and a barbeque grill. There is a total of 75 campsites throughout the four campgrounds. Sixteen of these sites are available for advanced reservations at Recreation.gov and are located within the Medicine and A.H. Hogue Campgrounds. Klamath Falls and Alturas are full-service communities located about two hours from the campground.
Camp host(s) are expected to camp on site through the season and provide general oversight and management of the facility, provide information to visitors, and coordinate with Forest Service staff on a frequent basis. Along with free camping, a daily stipend is available for each host providing services that day. Work schedules are flexible, though being present at least 5 days a week, including weekends and holidays, is expected. Start date is flexible. Depending on snowfall the opening of Medicine Lake Recreation Area may be until June.
