DESCRIPTION:
This volunteer opportunity is at Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The park is currently looking for motivated, enthusiastic volunteers to share their passion for history, education, and the environment with visitors from around the world.
The Interpretive Services Volunteer will be an integral member of the Interpretation and Education team by assisting in offering excellent customer service and interpretive opportunities for park visitors. In this position, volunteer will assist in providing interpretive programs to the public throughout the park. As a result, volunteer will provide visitors an opportunity to have a safe, enjoyable, and educational park experience!
Lyndon B. Johnson NHP is located in beautiful Hill Country and is divided into two districts. The park headquarters is in Johnson City, approximately 48 miles west of Austin, and 64 miles north of San Antonio. The LBJ Ranch is located in Stonewall, TX which is 14 miles West of the park headquarters.
Housing available for volunteers upon request and if available. 32 hours per week are required.
The Interpretive Services Volunteer will be an integral member of the park’s Interpretation and Education team by assisting in offering excellent customer service and interpretive opportunities for park visitors. Volunteer will:
- Assist staff in offering formal or informal interpretive programming in Johnson City and/or LBJ Ranch. Programs will focus on park resources and the history associated with Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park
- Assist with interpretive demonstrations
- Meet and greet visitors
- Answer visitor questions related to park resources, history and legacy of Lyndon B. Johnson, Texas Hill Country, and other related topics
- Explain Junior Ranger program and provide workbooks

- Be able to follow National Park Service environmental & historic preservation rules
- Enjoys working with the public
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent public speaking skills

Work may be performed indoor and outdoor; Summer temperatures can reach into the 100s, though the average summer temperature is 92 degrees. The winter temperatures range from mid-twenties to thirties in the night to fifties and sixties in the day.
