ADDRESS: Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest; 1247 E. Wall St.; Eagle River, Wisconsin 54521
DEPT: Forest Service
DATES: 5/1/2022 – 9/30/2022
DESCRIPTION:
A campground host is a seasonal volunteer who agrees to serve in a National Forest campground. Hosts are friendly, enjoy the outdoors and are eager to learn and share their knowledge.
The Lakewood/Laona Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is looking for motivated individuals to host at various campgrounds throughout the summer. The district manages 8 campgrounds and has host vacancies of varying lengths throughout the summer. If you’d like the opportunity to move around to a few different campgrounds throughout the summer, meeting different people, fishing different water, and seeing different sites, this is an excellent opportunity. Hosts who serve at various sites often find a favorite and end up with a long term campground host position at that site.
General Duties of a Campground Host Include:
- Serve as the first contact many campers will have with the Forest Service. The experience should leave campers with a positive attitude.
- Greet visitors, provide information, and display a courteous and helpful demeanor when rendering assistance to visitor questions.
- Serve as an important link to the Forest Service recreation staff.
- Clean and resupply flush and vault bathrooms daily. On busy weekends, holidays, host will check facilities twice daily.
- Clean campsites and fire rings after a campsite is vacated.
- Check the boat landing and refuse collection area daily.
- Perform some light maintenance as needed.
- Assist visitors during any severe or inclement weather related emergencies.
- Encourage visitors to “do the right thing” by following all Forest Service rules and local regulations.
- Post reservation placards provided by Forest Service staff.
- Report any violations to Forest Service staff.
- Campground hosts are not responsible for collecting recreation fees or enforcing compliance.
Hosts are to be neat in appearance and to keep a tidy and welcoming campsite. Hosts should be in good physical condition and be able to work in a variety of weather conditions including rain, high humidity, and varying temperatures.
