DESCRIPTION:

Visitor Services Volunteer Needed:nWe are looking for a self-motivated, energetic person or persons with a strong volunteer work ethic. nThis position is located at the Mogollon Visitor Center on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The log-cabin style visitor’s center is located on the south side of Highway 260 approximately 32 miles east of Payson and 27 miles west of Heber/Overgaard.

 

The volunteer(s) will work Thursday through Sunday (32 hours a week) and will assist Forest Service Employees in the daily operations of the Mogollon Rim Visitor Center. This includes but is not limited to: managing sales and inventory; operating a cash register; talking to visitors and answering questions about the local area; providing information about recreation opportunities on the forest; and educating visitors on fire safety and Leave No Trace principles.

Additional duties may include light maintenance such as picking up trash, interior cleaning and maintaining displays within the visitor center; and stocking/light cleaning of on-site public restrooms.  Training and a district orientation will be provided. This position requires long periods of standing/sitting as well as some walking and raising and lowering the flag. Shifts are 8 hours long, which includes travel time from the Black Mesa Ranger District office to the visitor’s center each day.  A minimum commitment from mid-May through mid-September till Labor Day Weekend is required.  A federal background check will be conducted upon award of the position. If couples wish to both volunteer an application must be completed for EACH person.

The volunteer must always present a neat, professional appearance and wear appropriate uniform components and name plate while working in the public eye and on official duty. This position requires a uniform, which will be provided to you at no cost. The volunteer will be trained in and adhere to all Forest Service Safety and Customer Service procedures.
