Department: Saulisberry Park Campgrounds
Accommodations: Free On-property full hookup campsite; must have own RV
Compensation: $7,500 per seasonal year (2nd week in March to 2nd week in November)
Time Commitment: 25/30 hours/week; (2nd week in March to 2nd week in November)
Supervisor: Parks & Recreation Director
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for executing and performing all property maintenance-related duties and serve as the informational source to the public at the Saulisberry Park Campground. This position requires the ability to perform a variety of routine and skilled maintenance, construction, custodial, landscaping, janitorial, and repair activities involving campground buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position works a varied schedule which may include weekends and holiday as well as being “on-call”.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform various landscaping duties including but not limited to mowing/trimming grass, raking, grounds keeper, repairing/replacing items within the Campground, improving drainages, installing signs, etc.
· Perform various electrical and plumbing repairs.
· Perform custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and stocking restrooms and shower facilities, cleaning campsites, litter pick-up, and general upkeep of the campgrounds.
· Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders and perform additional weed management tasks as needed.
· Assist with special event set-up and trash management.
· Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
· Communicate all safety concerns directly to Parks Manager and/or Police.
· Processes Point of Sale (P.O.S.) transactions with campground customers, monitors reservations and campground activity. The typical season is April to Oct. 31.
· Weekends and Holidays required, with scheduled hours falling primarily on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and the ability to be “on call” for any issues.
· Greets visitors, provides registration assistance, answers question, communicates rules and regulations, receives comments, and distributes literature. Brings cash to the City Building Auditor with all receipts.
· Keeps track of and maintains occupied and vacant campsites.
· Completes other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
· Ability to obtain mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, safety precautions/procedures, repair, and maintenance as well as the ability to interpret written instructions and manuals.
· Ability to successfully operate a Point of Sale (P.O.S.) system, a laptop computer with internet, and a mobile smart phone.
· Ability to correctly count and tally daily receipts and cash.
· Must be able to interact with visitors in a friendly, effective, and tactful manner.
· Ability to safely operate a pickup truck and/or a motorized golf cart.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
· Work in all kinds of weather conditions in mainly an outdoor environment, with exposure to weather, temperature extremes, and atmospheric conditions.
· Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
· Exposed to chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers.
· Frequently work near moving mechanical parts and/or equipment, subject to electrical shock and vibration.
· Use of campground maintenance equipment including tractors, mowers, weed eaters, blowers, and various other related equipment.
· Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, loud noises, foul odors, vibration, fumes, heights, work safety hazards, darkness, and cramped spaces.
· Work will occur across uneven terrain, including hills, slopes, grades, and wetlands in both forested and open areas, which may present numerous slipping and tripping hazards and exposed to various forms of wildlife and their deposits.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Extensive physical activity required; regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or greater.
· Regularly required to use hands to grasp, handle, feel and operate objects, tools, equipment, or controls, and required to lift and reach with hands and arms.
· Required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, kneel, crouch, and climb; talk or hear customers and employees.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include near acuity, far acuity, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
