River Cache Volunteer for Dinosaur National Monument River Management Program
The volunteer is responsible for river cache organization, inventory, river equipment maintenance and upkeep. Additional duties may include assisting with river permit check-ins, shuttling vehicles to river launch and take outs, and monitoring park visitation at popular park visitor use areas.
Majority of duties include working under the River Program Manager and other river program employees in maintaining river rafting equipment at the parks river cache. Work will be performed in indoor and outdoor settings.
Dinosaur National Monument’s climate is semiarid with temperatures averaging between 0°F to 30°F in January and 50°F to 100°F in July. Elevations within the park vary between 4,700 and 9,000 feet. Winter snow makes roads at higher elevations impassable while only light to moderate snow is found at lower elevations. Summer thunderstorms often cause heavy downpours and localized flooding but may fail to dampen parched soils less than a mile away.
Clean, maintain, and organize river rafting equipment in indoor and outdoor settings.
Assist River Program Manager with other operational needs, such as shuttling vehicles to and from river use launch and take out areas.
Assisting park river employees with prepping for river use activities.
Organization skills
River rafting experience or other river related activity experience is preferred.
Good oral communication.

Majority of work will be performed at Park Headquarters by Dinosaur, CO. Nearest services for gas, groceries, doctors, etc. can be found in the nearby towns of Vernal, UT, Dinosaur, CO and Rangely, CO. The volunteer will work independently under the supervision of the Parks River Program Manager.
Incumbent must be courteous, articulate, and professional at all times, and have a desire to be helpful to visitors and park partners. Volunteer must wear a clean volunteer shirt and hat for identification purposes.
