Volunteer Activities• Campground Host • Conservation Education • Trail/Campground Maintenance • Visitor Information • Fish/Wildlife • General Assistance Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionGeneral Description:  Host opportunities are available for the period of May 3, 2020 to September 30, 2020 at Battleship Picnic Area, located on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest, in Jemez Springs, NM. This picnic area is situated at 7000’, in a gorgeous ponderosa juniper forest and rock canyon, with the Jemez River flowing alongside it.  This beautiful picnic area accesses trail 137 and sits at the confluence of the Jemez River and San Antonio Creek.  Winters are typically mild with summers warm in lower elevations and cooler at higher elevations. The nearest full-service town is Bernalillo being 1 to 1.5 hours away. Campground hosts will receive reimbursement for allowable expenses. Responsibilities: As a host, you will provide service 5 days a week, Thursday through Monday, with Tuesday and Wednesday off. Host(s) must have good people skills, be responsible, and neat in appearance. Host(s) must be physically able to perform such tasks as raking, shoveling, mopping and sweeping, performing minor maintenance. Host(s) will represent the Forest Service in public contacts, providing information and directions, and reporting vandalism and other problems to Forest Service personnel. All necessary tools, supplies, and safety equipment will be provided by the Forest Service, along with appropriate training.  Host duties are:  Make a minimum of two rounds of the picnic area throughout the day and evening hours (during your rounds, check for fee compliance) Be visible and available for users (take time to walk around and be sociable and courteous to all guests) Inform visitors of current and changing rules and regulations Keep dumpster area, restrooms, grills/fire rings, and picnic sites clean Contact the Jemez Ranger District regarding law enforcement problems or call 911. Report any health or safety hazards (e.g. broken tables, grills, damage to restrooms etc.) to the Recreation staff. Facilities: Battleship picnic area consist of two recreation site locations and has vault toilets, tables, grills and fire rings.  The host site has potable water, waste tank, electricity, table, grill, fire ring and landline phone. The District provides an electric cart for use within the recreation site.
