DESCRIPTION:
Provide a meaningful and educational experience for visitors, helping them understand the significance of Ocmulgee Mound’s story, along with other park themes. Assist Park staff by providing efficient, courteous, and helpful information and services to park visitors
Front Desk Volunteers are essential in welcoming visitors, making their experiences special, and in helping them to understand the significance of the park and what it offers. The Resident Front Desk Attendant(s) may work alone or with park rangers. They will live on-site in the park’s RV pad (they will need to provide their own RV). Front Desk Volunteers are friendly, welcoming, empathetic, and good at thinking on their feet.
● Work with National Park Service employees, volunteers, interns, and partners to staff the Visitor Center Information Desk.
● Stand and greet visitors as they enter the Visitor Center (if possible)
● Educate visitors about the historical significance of the park
● Answer frequently asked questions in person and over the telephone
● Direct telephone calls and messages to proper staff members
● Operate audio-visual equipment for the park orientation film, as requested by interested visitors
● Maintain accurate tally of visitors and accurately record data on the daily stats sheet
● Relay visitor comments and concerns to park staff in a professional, timely manner
● Restock brochures and other informational materials at the front desk
● Assist with the park’s Junior Ranger Program, including swearing in new Junior Rangers
● Assist with bookstore operations by completing sales using a cash register/credit card machine
● Ensure visitors have an understanding and appreciation of park rules and regulations
● Know first aid and AED locations and be familiar with emergency protocols
● Provide critical feedback about the position and program
● Other duties as assigned and agreed upon by the volunteer
● Previous experience in education or interpretation/visitor services is preferred but not required
● Front Desk Attendants must be willing and able to learn about the park’s trails, natural and cultural resources, and other information to support visitors.
● Front Desk Attendants must have a RV to live in.
● Front Desk Attendants must be friendly and welcoming to park visitors.
