Job Description
DATES: 5/16/2022 – 10/1/2022
This National Park Service Volunteer-In-Parks position functions within the Facility Management and Operations Division of Yellowstone National Park. The applicants selected for this volunteer position will be full time, (32 hour/week) uniformed members of the workforce.
As members of the workforce, volunteers are expected to be active participants in our safety program and to practice safe work behaviors. Additionally, the volunteer is expected to contribute to a positive workplace culture where respect and professionalism are a priority and negative behaviors such as harassment and bullying are not tolerated.
Applicants will be considered for a positions based out of the Canyon, Lake and Grant Village areas. The National Park Service will provide a Recreational Vehicle (RV) site or housing unit in a workforce housing area near the job location.
Internet and cell phone connectivity at these areas vary by provider and time of day.
DUTIES
Provide light maintenance and janitorial services in support of the Mission of the National Park Service.
QUALIFICATIONS
Possess a friendly, helpful, professional demeanor with all visitors and co-workers.
Ability to work safely with cleaning agents.
General knowledge of hand tools.
Maintain composure and behave in a professional manner in stressful situations.
Ability to use a park radio professionally and properly.
General knowledge of park regulations.
General knowledge of park resources.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is primarily outdoors at high elevation. Assigned tasks are done in weather that frequently changes. As is typical in the Northern Rocky Mountains, temperatures routinely dip below freezing in the early morning hours and can rise to very warm in the afternoon. Yellowstone often experiences instability in the afternoons with frequent thunderstorms.
The high elevation of Yellowstone National Park can cause complications for people with underlying respiratory or cardiac conditions. The geyser basins around Old Faithful are at elevations greater than 7000 feet above sea level.
