Walnut Canyon National Monument is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help with a variety of Visitor Services! Duties will include staffing a visitor center, providing outstanding information/orientation services, ringing up bookstore sales for nonprofit partner Western National Park Association (WNPA), and roving park trails providing informal interpretation and a friendly park presence. Training provided to set you up for success!
Timeframe of this opportunity is June 1 through @ August 31 2022 and there is some flexibility to modify start and end dates for mutual benefit.
Volunteers will work 32 hours per week (four 8-hour shifts) with consistent three days off per week; if a couple is applying there is a possibility for each to work 24 hours per week (three 8-hour shifts) with consistent four days off per week.
An RV pad in Walnut Canyon’s housing complex is available with hook-ups (water, sewer, electric, laundry facility) provided.
Walnut Canyon is approximately 15 minutes drive time from downtown Flagstaff, a city of about 75,000 residents and all services available.
Note that park elevation and the Flagstaff area is approximately 7,000 feet above sea level and the park vegetation if primarily ponderosa pine forest.
Cell phone and internet service can be occasionally limited. Volunteers with a completed federal background check and ‘PIV card’ can access a phone and computer at the Visitor Center.

DUTIES
Greeting and orienting visitors to the Monument and surrounding area
Answering questions about the park’s natural and cultural history
Roving trails and providing informal interpretation of primary park resources
Staffing the Walnut Canyon Visitor Center (information, orientation, WNPA bookstore sales)
QUALIFICATIONS
Work with other staff in a positive manner
Orient and inform visitors about the park
Ability to work a cash register
Enthusiasm for public service
Able to stand and walk for periods of time
Ability to hike on trails
Able to safely operate a motor vehicle
Ability to be well at a sustained elevation of 7,000 feet
