JOB DESCRIPTION:
Sleeping Bear Dunes is seeking volunteers to serve as docents in the historic village of Glen Haven, helping visitors connect with the area’s rich heritage and stories.
Location Description
This 71,000-acre park features sand dunes, beech/maple and pine/oak forests, rivers, inland lakes, miles of Lake Michigan beach, two offshore islands, historic farming district, a lighthouse, two campgrounds and 105 miles of hiking trails.
Volunteer Description:
Volunteer Interpreters support operations in the historic village of Glen Haven, welcoming visitors at the Life-Saving Station Maritime Museum, the Cannery Boat Museum, and—if interested—working the active Blacksmith Shop. They also assist at the Empire Visitor Center by providing information, orientation, and general visitor support, along with other duties as needed.
Volunteers who serve a minimum of 4 days a week per person can stay in free campsites. Sites come with water and electric hookups, though there’s no sewer, and a few sites may run below 30 amps. A dump station and blue-boy are available. Uniforms are provided.
