JOB DESCRIPTION:

As the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery Host, you’ll enjoy a RV site with full hookups in exchange for 20 hours of service per week. Live, work and play in the beautiful Methow Valley while making a meaningful impact!

RV Site Features:

  • Full hookups: potable water, septic, and up to 50 Amp electrical service
  • Free internet, trash, and recycling
  • Washer and dryer available in the on-site office building
  • Approx. 12 ft x 45 ft gravel pad with a small patio area
  • Located next to the visitor parking lot and a scenic walking/biking trail

Typical Schedule:

Friday through Monday, plus the last three Wednesdays in August to assist with spring Chinook spawning.

Hours: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

We’re flexible! If you need to adjust your schedule, just let us know.

Volunteer Duties

  • Greet guests as they arrive and offer guided tours
  • If visitors prefer to explore on their own, kindly remind them to stay out of fenced or restricted
  • Assist with special events such as Winthrop Kids Fishing Day in mid June

Help us keep the hatchery welcoming and beautiful! Tasks may include:

  • Weekly cleaning and restocking of visitor restrooms
  • Dusting and cobweb removal in the main hatchery building
  • Maintaining flower beds and outdoor spaces
  • Refilling brochures, coloring books, and educational materials
  • Monitoring the facility after hours and reporting any concerns
  • Emptying trash bins and refilling the trout feed bucket as needed

Optional Projects Based on Your Interests

We’re happy to tailor your experience! You might also:

  • Assist with fish culture (feeding fish, cleaning rearing units)
  • Help with maintenance and landscaping (painting, mowing, weed eating)
