JOB DESCRIPTION:

Park host volunteer opportunity with USACE at Allatoona Lake for the Cooper’s Furnace Day Use Area located on the Etowah River. Park features include: hiking trails and trail-heads, two picnic shelters, picnic tables with grills, a horseshoe pit, volleyball court, playground, soccer goals, and a historical landmark (Cooper’s Furnace).

 

USACE Allatoona Lake Park Host Volunteer Qualifications for Cooper’s Furnace Day Use Area: available to work weekends and holidays with extended holiday hours, fulfill 20-25 volunteer hours per week, comfortable with public interaction and engagement, available to open/close park gates while on-duty and at the appropriate times as instructed, have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle that is reliable.

 

The work environment is mostly outdoors and non-strenuous. Must be comfortable with working with others, including other sets of volunteers, USACE staff, and the general public. Also must be comfortable with the public coming onto your campsite with questions/concerns given that this park has no gatehouse to operate out of.

 

A campsite with electricity (50 amp), water, and sewage will be provided in exchange for a 20/25-hour work week.

 

Background checks are required by USACE for volunteers who are volunteering for more than 6 consecutive months. The level of Background Investigation (BI) required will be Tier 1 (SAM Form 36 and OF 306).
