Job Description
October through April, 30 hours/week, Volunteers assist Park Rangers with our 6th grade environmental education program field trips. This involves walking in the swamp, prairie, and pinelands, assisting students with experiments and data collection, helping with group management, safety and general upkeep of education center, equipment and trail. May also assist on a variety of other activities for students or adult groups including wet walks, canoe trips and bike trips, represent the preserve at special events and festivals both in the preserve or local communities and participate in special projects in other divisions.
Water could be over the knees for part of the season and some trails can be rough with tripping hazards. South Florida can be warm in the winter months, but typically around 80 degrees in the daytime and a little cooler at night. There could be mosquitoes especially at night.
Must be flexible, enjoy working with all ages, have enthusiasm, and physically able to walk in the swamp!
