ADDRESS: E590 Blacktop Road  De Soto, North Dakota, 54624

DATES: 4/1/2026 – 10/31/2026

DEPT: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are now recruiting camp host/park maintenance volunteers (singles or 2-person teams) to join our Recreation Operations team for Summer 2026 at Blackhawk Park. USACE-Blackhawk Park is located in the heart of Wisconsin’s Driftless Region and the Tri-State Area along the Mississippi River (Pool 9). The Mississippi River provides excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, canoeing and kayaking, as well as birding, and watching the tows push barges down the river. There are plenty of hiking and exploring opportunities within local areas close to the park, and many local town festivals and events during the recreation season.

The duties for this position are to include general visitor assistance, which involves answering visitor questions, providing directions, as well as staffing our park entry building, where visitors can be greeted and have the opportunity to get acquainted with the park upon arrival. Additional tasks in the entry building may include navigating the Recreation.gov (R1S) system for the park. Other duties will include litter/refuse pickup, campsite cleaning, and occasionally general park maintenance using hand-held power tools such as leaf blowers and string trimmers. Other tasks are available to fit your interests and skills, no professional experience needed!

Volunteers will be provided a full hookup campsite in the park in exchange for 20-30 hours of volunteer work per week. Those in this position will work April 1st–October 31st, 2026. We ask for at least one month commitment, but we prefer those who will be available to be on-site for several months or the entire season. Peak season for this park is May–September. Work schedules are flexible but typically a work week will be Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, and occasionally 12:00pm-8:00pm on Saturday and Sunday nights to staff the entry building.

Fuel, fishing supplies, firewood, restaurants, laundromats, and convenience stores are located within 10 miles of Blackhawk Park in the towns of De Soto, WI, and Lansing, IA. (Please note that the Lansing bridge is currently under construction until 2027, and a ferry will transport cars between the shorelines of Iowa and Wisconsin until further notice.) La Crosse, WI is located 30 miles north of Blackhawk, with many more shopping and exploring opportunities close by.
