JOB DESCRIPTION:
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is looking for couples or individuals to serve as campground hosts at the Piñon Flats Campground for the 2026 season. If you join the volunteer program team at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, you spend the season living next to the tallest dunes in North America! The sand dunes are the centerpiece in a diverse landscape of grasslands, wetlands, conifer and aspen forests, alpine lakes, and tundra. Experience this natural diversity through hiking, sand sledding, splashing in Medano Creek, wildlife watching, and more!
Enjoy amazing scenery in beautiful Colorado. Activities in the surrounding area include: hiking, camping, hot springs, wildlife viewing, stargazing, and outstanding solitude. Alamosa is nearby (34 miles) with access to groceries, shopping, health clinics, movie theaters, restaurants, and Adams State University. The park will provide uniform shirts, jackets, and hats to be returned at the end of the season.
Dates/ Season: April – October
Work Schedule: 40+ hours per week. 4 days on 3 days off
Housing: Free RV Site in the Pinon Flats Campground, hookups: electric, water, sewer
Minimum Commitment: 3 months
Job Description:
Visitor Services & Education
•Welcome campers and provide campground and park information
•Explain Park regulations, campground policies, fire restrictions, and wildlife safety
Campground Operations Support
•Monitor campground occupancy and assist with site-related questions
•Conduct regular campground walks or drives to check cleanliness, safety, and compliance
•Collect refuse throughout the campground & sites and clean fire rings as needed
Compliance & Safety
•Inform visitors of campground and park regulations and provide corrective actions for minor violations
•Assist with quiet hours, pet regulations, food storage, and fire restrictions
•Maintain a visible presence to promote a safe and respectful campground environment
Emergency Response
•Report medical emergencies, safety concerns, or suspicious activity using park radios
•Provide basic assistance to visitors during emergencies within the scope of training
Skills Needed/Preferred:
•RV Ownership & Operation: Must own and reside in a self-contained RV
•Customer Service: Friendly, professional, and approachable demeanor
•Communication: Ability to clearly and respectfully convey information, laws and regulations
•Observation & Attention to Detail: Identify safety hazards, maintenance issues, and compliance concerns
•Independence: Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
•Physical Ability: Capable of walking campground loops and performing light outdoor tasks in varying weather or operating a light electric vehicle
Due to remoteness reliable personal transportation and a valid driver’s license are required. Laundry facilities are available at the park.
RV site Details
Two RV pads are available: 30-foot max. length (Loop 1) or 40-foot max. length (Loop 2). Both sites come with sewer, water and electric (30amp) hookups.
