JOB DESCRIPTION:
Major Duties
· Maintain own campsite in accordance with all park regulations and set a good example for other campers.
· Show up for scheduled hours and days. Work schedule will be discussed with supervisor upon hiring.
· Greet and register campers as they enter the campground, keep accurate records, interpret campground regulations and directions, and assist the camper as best as possible.
· Perform minor maintenance in the campground and kiosk. Maintain a neat, tidy, and organized work area.
· Report any hazards in or out of the campground to an immediate supervisor.
· Periodically make rounds in the campground to update records and remind campers of rules and regulations. Any law enforcement issues will be reported to park rangers.
· Clean 50-80 firepits daily depending which campground assigned to.
· Occasionally assisting visitors after hours.
· Drive a government vehicle e.g., truck or golf cart.Living Conditions/Location
The volunteer will provide their own living accommodations e.g., RV, the park will pay for electric and propane. Cell service has been getting better over the years, Verizon has the best service. There is no Wi-Fi. However, there is a recreational center in the Village that has Wi-Fi and a computer lab. There is a market and multiple restaurants at the Village. However, the market is limited and expensive. The nearest town that has multiple grocery and retail stores is Flagstaff, AZ which is 90 miles away from the park. Northern Arizona has a unique climate depending on the time of year, it can be snowing or over 100 degrees. Please pack many layers because even if it is hot during the day, temperatures can reach freezing at night. Northern Arizona is also very dry and high altitude, prepare yourself for that type of environment and living at 7,000 ft.
Reimbursements
The only reimbursement authorized is for the use of personal property used to perform volunteer duties. Incidental expenses.
Benefits
The volunteer will be provided an RV pad. 35-foot limit.
Duty Station
This position is duty stationed at the Village. If work is required outside the Village and requires overnight at a temporary duty station, the volunteer will be put in the National Park Service travel program so the volunteer will receive a per diem and lodging (if needed).
