JOB DESCRIPTION:

Are you ready for your next adventure? The BLM is looking for a fun, friendly, and reliable volunteer to serve as Campground Host at Chickahominy Reservoir Recreation Site in southeast Oregon’s wide-open High Desert. This is your chance to spend a few unforgettable months outdoors, greeting travelers and being part of a public lands team that values your time and energy.

Chickahominy Reservoir has been a go-to fishing destination since 1967, stocked yearly with rainbow trout. You’ll meet fellow nature-lovers from all over, all while enjoying wide-open views and peaceful sunrises right from your campsite.

Why Host at Chickahominy?

  • Free campsite with electrical and water hook-ups
  • Garbage and wastewater services provided
  • Monthly reimbursement (individual or couple)
  • Vast scenery, from rugged ridges to wildlife-rich foothills
  • Some of the best trout fishing in Eastern Oregon
  • Opportunities for ice fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing

What Hosts Do:

  • Greet and assist visitors
  • Monitor campground conditions
  • Perform light maintenance (trash pickup, site checks, etc.)
  • Report issues to BLM staff and help keep the area welcoming and safe

Requirements:

  • Be 18+ years old
  • Have your own trailer, camper, or motor home
  • Commit to at least 3 months of spring/early summer service; a second, shorter opportunity may also be available in the fall
  • Be available on weekends and holidays, with mid-week time off

Campground Quick Facts:

  • 28 dry campsites (first-come, first-served)
  • Boat ramp, fish cleaning station, vault restrooms, and drinking water
  • $16/night per vehicle; $5 for extra vehicles
  • Popular trout fishing in spring and fall; ice fishing in winter
  • Shade is limited and winds can be strong—tie things down!
