The Grindstone Ranger District offers over 200 miles of some of the most enjoyable and challenging OHV routes in the nation. The “Mendocino OHV Corridor” is a designated 40 mile, east-west route across the south end of the Forest connecting the Stonyford OHV Staging Area and the Upper Lake OHV Staging Area.
The south end of the Grindstone Ranger District offers over 200 miles of some of the most enjoyable and challenging OHV routes in the nation. The “Mendocino OHV Corridor” is a designated 40 mile, east-west route across the south end of the Forest connecting the Stonyford OHV Staging Area and the Upper Lake OHV Staging Area. The riding area varies in elevation from 1,700 feet (at Fouts Springs), to almost 6,000 feet (near Goat Mountain). Vegetation varies from low elevation chaparral to tall pine and fir forest in the high country. There are several campgrounds in the Fouts Springs area, all except the group campground are first come – first served. Most campsites (except for those in the Davis Flat area) are equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills and potable water. No sites have electricity. Vault toilets are conveniently placed around campgrounds. The campgrounds are open year round, but see the most visitors October through April. The host site contains running water, sewer, and electricity
DUTIES
Duties include visitor information, campground cleanup, trash removal, and bathroom and shower cleanup. Hours are negotiable, but duty hours are typically Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday during the periods of highest visitation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to interact with members of the public. Ability to inform public of OHV rules and regulations. Able to lift 40 pounds and walk for one mile.
