JOB DESCRIPTION:
Campground Hosts are hired through the Volunteers-In-Parks (VIP) program and are a valuable asset to the park’s campground operation. Campground Hosts at Congaree focus on the Longleaf and Bluff Campgrounds, located roughly 1-mile apart. The Campground Host has an RV pad located between these two campgrounds, allowing them trail (hike or UTV) access to either. Hosts must work a minimum of 32 hours per week; schedule discussed with supervisor upon hiring.
Major Duties
Assist campers with finding their reserved site, understanding park rules and regulations
Perform minor maintenance on campground picnic tables and fire rings
Check campgrounds periodically for litter or debris
Assist facilities maintenance staff by cleaning and maintaining vault toilets
Report any hazards or safety concerns to supervisor
Periodically make rounds in the campgrounds in order to answer questions and remind campers of park rules and regulations
Resolve minor disturbances and disputes (e.g., someone camping on the wrong site), reporting any law enforcement issues to park rangers
Assist facilities maintenance staff with mowing, clearing, and maintaining campgrounds (training for use of park equipment will be provided)
Drive government vehicles (i.e., trucks or UTVs)
Work Environment
High heat and humidity from spring-fall
Low temperatures overnight in winter, sometimes below freezing
Requirements
Must have an RV
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must have a professional and courteous demeanor
Must be able to lift 20 lbs
