JOB DESCRIPTION:
Volunteer Camp/Site Host duties include monitoring daily campground operations, assisting visitors, greeting and answering visitor questions, light maintenance work, and other duties as assigned. Volunteers will be asked to complete a combined 30 hours per week in exchange for a full hook up campsite.
The three Corps of Engineers campground locations around Sakakawea Lake are:
- Downstream Campground
- East Totten Trail Campground
- Wolf Creek Campground
Sakakawea Lake is the third largest man-made lake in the United States. The lake is 178 miles long, has over 1,500 miles of shoreline, and the deepest part of the lake is about 175 ft. Sakakawea Lake and Garrison Dam are located on the Missouri River, 75 miles north of Bismarck, North Dakota amongst the rolling prairie and Badlands of Western North Dakota.
Fishing, boating and camping are the primary recreational activities at Sakakawea Lake. There are numerous boat ramps, parks and recreation areas, and wildlife management areas around the lake.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers oversees management of the public lands and waters of Lake Sakakawea which provide a variety of benefits to the public, which include: recreation, fish and wildlife, flood damage reduction, municipal and industrial water intakes, water quality, and navigation.
