DATES: 3/23/2026 – 9/30/2026
DEPT: National Park Service
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Redwood National and State Parks would like two volunteers to support the behind-the-scenes operations of Wolf Creek Outdoor School. The outdoor school is designated as a classroom for interpretive lessons, housing for school groups, and a food hall for meals. The volunteers would largely aid in facility needs throughout the week as school groups check in and out of their time with us. This position consists of a set of weekly duties as needed, especially before and after groups leave, and more thorough monthly duties throughout the facilities. In addition to maintenance responsibilities, the volunteer(s) will lead group check-ins and check-outs of the outdoor school.
The volunteer will be needed for three-months minimum, and their service can be extended for up to six months. Park housing consists of an RV pad with full hookups and laundry facilities provided. Please include in your application the size of your RV/motorhome.
Volunteers are required to commit to 32 hours per week. The volunteer’s schedule will consist of four-day workweeks, Tuesday-Friday, with Saturday-Monday as their lieu days.
Wolf Creek Outdoor School has been an enriching place for many generations of adolescents who now call this place to memory, perhaps as one of their first immersive experiences with nature. Groups of 4th-5th grade students and teachers visit the park for a three-day, two-night environmental education experience where they learn about water quality, ecologies of the forest, fire effects in meadows, and more. The curriculum is meticulously planned out and continues to be updated to provide students with valuable knowledge on the outdoors and the strategies to preserve it.
