JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Olympic National Forest is seeking a volunteer host at Falls Creek Campground for the 2025 season!
Falls Creek Campground is located on the south shore of Lake Quinault in the beautiful temperate rainforest. Sitka spruce, Douglas-fir, western hemlock and western red cedar provide dense shade for this beautiful setting. The forested slopes of the Olympic National Park provide a scenic backdrop across the Quinault Lake.
Duties:
- Greet visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude, provide appropriate Forest information.
- Assist with campsite registration as needed and encourage fee compliance.
- Support tracking and administration of reservations from Recreation.gov.
- Hosts do not enforce forest rules and regulations or collect any fees but do encourage visitors to recreate responsibly.
- Clean and resupply restroom facilities daily, includes replacing toilet paper, sweeping/mopping restroom floors, cleaning bathroom toilets.
- Picking up litter within the campground.
- Other duties performed as needed includes removing cobwebs and hornet nests from buildings, cleaning campfire pits and grills, extinguishing unattended campfires, and trimming brush along trails.
- Physical duties include walking the campground, long periods of standing, and carrying supplies (up to 20lbs.)
- Report any issues or concerns should be to the Recreation Manager and Staff.
- Positively represent the Olympic National Forest.
Position Details & Expectations:
The camp host site has water, electric, and sewer hookups. Hosts will remain on site 5 days per week, Thursday through Monday, and be available to answer visitor questions within reasonable hours, usually 9am-7pm. A stipend will be given at $35/day. No other costs will not be reimbursed. A Forest Service volunteer name tag, badge and vest will be issued upon arrival and returned at the end of the season. Start and end dates may be negotiable.
Additional Campground Information:
Falls Creek has 31 campsites that can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs up to 16 feet in length, however no hook ups are provided. Some sites are in wooded areas and others are not; many of the sites have a view of the lake. The campground has a potable water system. The site also has a barrier-free flush toilet as well as several accessible camp and picnic sites. 3 day use picnic sites are located along the shoreline. A large covered shelter is located on the shore, which was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, it provides opportunities for large families or groups.
Area Description:
The Quinault area of Olympic National Forest features 10 miles of hiking trails and many waterfalls within walking distance of the campground. Lake Quinault is part of the Quinault Indian Nation, and as such, visitors must have a fishing permit and or boat permit through the Quinault Indian Nation. Both may be purchased through local merchants. Boat inspections must also be completed by the Tribe before entering with watercraft. Please keep boats clean, drained and dry, to avoid transport or introduction of aquatic invasive species. Nearby historic Lake Quinault Lodge offers boat and kayak rentals as well as a number of interpretive tours.
