JOB DESCRIPTION:
*WATERFOWL HUNTING SEASON* and *BIRD WATCHING SEASON*
Seeking one volunteer for general grounds upkeep, restocking brochures, maintaining signs/observation platforms, general support to the hunting program and check stations, cleaning and organizing the maintenance shop, small engine repair, lending a hand where needed, litter pickup at parking lots, kiosk repair, painting, and miscellaneous general tasks as assigned. Time spent in this role will be both outdoors and indoors across the Sacramento NWR Complex, with a majority of general duties taking place at our headquarters location on Sacramento NWR and Sacramento River NWR. The volunteer would be supervised by the Deputy Project Leader. A background check will be required.

Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge is located along Interstate 5 about 70 miles north of Sacramento and about 80 miles south of Redding, California. It is well known for the millions of geese and ducks which migrate through and spend weeks to months in the refuge’s wetlands. The refuge complex includes Sacramento, Delevan, Colusa, Sutter, and Sacramento River NWRs, and the Steve Thompson North Central Valley WMA (Llano Seco unit). Opportunities for recreation include all “Big 6” activities: wildlife observation, photography, hunting, fishing, environmental education, and interpretation. The visitor center is located 10 miles south of the city of Willows, California, which has grocery stores, restaurants, and a medical center.
All resident volunteers must meet the qualifications and work the minimum weekly work hours (20) to stay in housing or RV. Send an email to inquire.
HOUSING:
RV pads with electric and water hookups are available with a minimum eight week commitment of 20 hours per week per resident. Trash service is provided. Local commuters are encouraged to apply. This is a smoke-free and drug-free federal facility. Tent camping is not nor are open fires.
