Job Description

Wupperman Volunteer Campground Host Program

Volunteer campground hosts live and work for the summer at Hinsdale County’s 31-site Wupperman Campground on the backside of Lake San Cristobal. Camp hosting is an opportunity to meet different people, serve visitors to the Lake City area, and represent Hinsdale County. Campground hosts should be friendly, cooperative, like helping people and enjoy the outdoors.

Campground hosts will be provided a camping space centrally located at Wupperman Campground in addition to propane and fuel for generator for the duration of the summer.

Hosts must be at least 18 years of age and supply their own camper to live in for the summer.

Duties of the Wupperman Campground hosts include:

1.      Check in campers, accept camping fees, and supervise and manage daily camping activities at the 31-site campground.

2.      Provide a presence at the campground each morning and evening for check-in or check-out.

3.      Provide campground rules to campers and report violations that cannot be remedied to the County Enforcement Officer.

4.      Provide general information to campers. Knowledge of roads, trails, services and activities in the Lake City and Hinsdale County area is a benefit.

5.      Enforce campground rules as detailed in Hinsdale County’s Recreation Facilities Rules and Regulations relating to Wupperman Campground.

6.      Cleaning and stocking bathrooms at campground and Red Mountain Gulch and Hinsdale County Boat Dock recreation facilities. Hosts are financially compensated by Hinsdale County for cleaning.

7.      Assist Building and Enforcement Officer with monitoring and operation of campground water tank.

8.      Report campground needs including trash removal and septic/toilet pumping to Building and Enforcement Officer.

9.      Keep daily records of campsite occupation. Submit monies collected and reports to County Administration Office on a weekly basis.

10.  Inform County Administration office of needs for paper goods, cleaning supplies and office supplies. Store supplies at campground storage near Admin facility as needed.

Requirements of Wupperman Campground Hosts:

1.      Possession of a RV or trailer to live in during the hosting season. Pets are allowed under host’s supervision.

2.      Availability to work onsite daily from mid-May until September 30.

3.      Physically fit to carry out light duties.

4.      Ability to repair minor plumbing and other mechanical duties.

It is the goal of the County to provide a safe, peaceful, fun and carefree camping environment.  The Campground Host will be expected to provide the highest level of customer service.

Campground Host is a voluntary position.  Although in-kind benefits, (propane and generator fuel) are provided to campground hosts, this does not create any contract rights for the future, constitute a contractual obligation of any kind or establish an employer/employee relationship between the Campground Host and Hinsdale County.
