Job Description
Houston Audubon is seeking energetic, friendly RV volunteers with an interest in birding, wildlife, and environmental conservation to support our High Island sanctuaries during spring migration (March–May). These world-famous birding hotspots sit just twenty minutes from Crystal Beach and a short ferry ride from Galveston Island—an unbeatable location for anyone who loves nature and wants to be at the heart of one of North America’s most spectacular migrations.
RV sites (4 total) are located at our Coastal Operations Center (COOP), which features showers, a laundry facility, and an outdoor picnic pavilion.
3 sites include full hookups (Water/Sewer/Electric 30/50 amp) – preference is given to long-term volunteers
1 pad includes Water & Electric hookups – great if you are available for a few days, coming in and out from Houston or Beaumont!
Spring Migration RV Volunteer Duties
Every spring, thousands of visitors flock to Smith Oaks and Boy Scout Woods to witness peak migration. RV volunteers help provide a welcoming, informative, and conservation-focused experience by contributing 32 hours/week (four full days) at our admissions kiosks.
Primary responsibilities:
- Greeting visitors and answering birding questions
- Providing trail maps, guides, and sanctuary information
- Issuing admissions and selling merchandise
- Helping maintain our daily sightings list
- Helping visitors discover the wonder of migration while supporting on-the-ground conservation.
This position is ideal for volunteers who love birding and enjoy connecting with people in a world-renowned migration hotspot!
