JOB DESCRIPTION:
PLEASE NOTE: This is a full-time, 32-40 hour a week position that requires the volunteer(s) to have an RV and to live onsite. Applicants who cannot meet these specifications will not be considered. Couples may apply. If a couple is selected, each individual will be required to work 32-40 hours a week to be eligible to live on the RV pad. Personal vehicle is required to drive to and from duty station.
This volunteer will assist the Shark Valley Interpretation staff with Visitor Center operations during the peak season, such as answering repetitive questions about Everglades National Park, the Shark Valley district, and general area. Assist Everglades Association employee with sales register and/or operate independently when associate is not there. Due to the nature of the job, repetition can be expected.
In addition, the volunteer will assist the Shark Valley Interpretation staff with programs; including but not limited to guided walks (~1 hour long on paved and uneven paths), talks, bike rides (15 miles per ride), and slough slogs/wet walks (~3 hours long on rough terrain) on an as-needed basis.
Shark Valley Visitor Center is located about 19 miles down Highway 41 from the outskirts of Miami, FL. An RV pad will be available and will be within 10 miles of the duty station. One single volunteer in the spot or a volunteer couple sharing an RV. Miami is a large and sprawling city that offers all kinds of amenities and resources that a person may need.
