ADDRESS: 107 Mckinley Drive  Mio, Michigan, 48647

DATES: 2026-05-25

DEPT: Forest Service

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Lying between the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron in the northern half of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is the nearly one-million-acre Huron-Manistee National Forests. The Forests offer year-around motorized and non-motorized recreation opportunities. Most popular are the trails and campgrounds along four nationally designated Wild and Scenic Rivers such as the Pine, Manistee, Au Sable and Pere Marquette.

Mack Lake ORV Campground is the largest campground on the Mio Ranger District with 42 sites. Southeast of Mio, Mack Lake is 175-acres of shared private and federal ownership. An embedded day use area provides visitors with a picnic area as well as water access and a swimming area surrounded by buoys. With an ORV trailhead located within the campground, Mack Lake ORV Campground is a popular location for ORV trail riders.

The Huron Manistee National Forest is seeking campground host(s) who can represent the Forest Service in a professional and courteous manner. Host(s) are often the first Forest Service representative that guests will encounter. They should interact regularly with the public during the day and make full rounds through the campground at least twice a day. Host(s) must set a positive camping example by maintaining a neat, clean and, organized campsite area.

Campground host(s) are responsible for assisting the Forest Service staff with the maintenance of campground, restrooms, and other campground facilities. Maintenance responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Cleaning restrooms
Picking up trash in the campground and fire rings
Raking flammable materials away from fire rings
Maintaining/painting/posting signs and other infrastructure.

Host(s) perform daily responsibilities independently without direct supervision. It is necessary for the camp host(s) to learn the rules and regulations of the recreation area including campgrounds, day use sites, and the general recreation area. Camp host(s) enforce Forest Service regulations pertaining to the recreation area they are assigned to, however, camp hosts will not be required to handle any law enforcement issues. All violations should be reported to the district office and law enforcement will be contacted.

The Forest Service will provide the host with a volunteer uniform. They will have a host site within the campground for their own RV.  Gray water hookups may be available at the site. Reimbursement for generator fuel may be available.
