Cape Lookout National Seashore is a beach park which protects 56 miles of natural barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina. Within the park, you will find a herd of over 100 wild horses, several species of nesting Sea Turtles and a wide variety of marine life. The park receives, on average, 500,000 visitors annually.

Due to the proximity to the ocean, weather conditions can change rapidly and with little warning. Sudden rainstorms can be common throughout the year. Summertime weather can be very hot and humid, with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees and humidity exceeding 80%. Spring and Fall are typically mild and less humid. Winter weather occasionally dips below freezing and snow is rare, but not unheard of.

Much of the work for this position occurs outdoors, and volunteers should be prepared to work in the various climates described above. Additionally, biting insects such as mosquitos, horse flies and no-see-ums are common in Coastal Carolina.
