Volunteer Camp Host

What You’ll Be Doing (a.k.a. The Fun Stuff)

As a Volunteer Campground Host, you’ll get about 95% of the fun of running a campground—with none of the heavy lifting (literally). You’ll be the friendly face greeting campers, sharing local tips, and helping keep things tidy and welcoming.

Your day-to-day might include:

·         Welcoming guests and checking them in (bonus points for good jokes).

·         Helping with reservations—making, extending, or canceling.

·         Sharing info about campground rules, nearby hikes, moose & bear etiquette, and where to get the best coffee.

·         Light upkeep like restocking restrooms, picking up stray trash, and keeping common areas looking sharp.

·         Reporting anything unusual to staff (you’re the eyes and ears, not the enforcer).

·         Being on-call a couple nights a week—just in case someone needs help or a bear gets curious.

Important note: You’ll never be asked to handle dangerous situations. That’s what security, police, and Fish & Game are for. (Yes, we call them when bears sniff out someone’s BBQ leftovers.)

 

Schedule & Setup

We’re looking for two hosts to rotate weekly. One week on, one week off—plenty of time to explore Alaska in between. Expect about 25 hours per work week, split between office time and campground rounds.

What You Bring to the Campfire

ü  Experience in customer service, hospitality, education, public safety, or maintenance? Awesome.

ü  Love for camping and the outdoors? Even better.

ü  Friendly, reliable, and able to work independently? Perfect.

ü  Willing to be on-call up to two nights during your work week? Great—we’ll make sure the coffee pot is full.

Physical Stuff

·         You’ll need to walk, stand, and bend for extended periods.

·         Be able to lift up to 50 lbs (think: firewood, not bears).

·         Comfortable responding to camper needs after hours.
