ADDRESS:
Olympic National Park Visitor Center
Port Angeles, Washington, 98362
DATES: 5/12/2025 – 9/29/2025
DEPT: National Park Service
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Campground hosts serve as volunteers in campgrounds throughout Olympic National Park. Hosts are frontline representatives of the National Park Service (NPS) and provide customer service, information, and assistance to visitors camping in the park. Campground hosts must be friendly and approachable, as they are often the only NPS representative a visitor may encounter during their stay. Hosts are expected to deal with repetitive questions, handle emergencies, and manage conflicts in a positive manner throughout the summer. Schedules are determined by supervisors and all hosts must volunteer a minimum of at least 32 hours a week. Ideally, we ask for hosts to volunteer for the entire season, May through September, but we are open to shorter seasons based on operational needs and staffing levels.
Many campgrounds at Olympic are remote with limited staffing and infrastructure. Campground hosts are required to live and work in these remote locations, and to perform duties professionally and in accordance with agency policy at all times. Hosts must operate handheld radios with multiple repeaters and channels. There are no golf carts available at campgrounds, so walking long distances during inclement weather is required to perform these duties.
In exchange for their volunteer work, we provide campground hosts with a campsite in their assigned campground which includes water, electric and sewer hookups (excluding South Beach); we cannot provide access to cooking and laundry facilities. Campground hosts are required to have self-contained RV/Trailor units with toilet and food storage facilities. Each campground has a unique visitor base and working environment, so we encourage interested candidates to read all the details for each location to find the best campground fit based on your interest and needs.
