JOB DESCRIPTION:

Location: Osceola National Forest (Near Lake City, FL)

Term: 2 to 6 Months (Depending on vacancy and season)

 

Position Overview:

Ocean Pond Campground is seeking professional, dependable individuals or couples to serve as Volunteer Camp Hosts. As the “Face of the Forest,” you will be the primary point of contact for our 67-site facility, which serves over 100,000 visitors annually. This role is essential in maintaining the operational standards of one of the region’s most popular lakeside destinations.

Professional Duties

Visitor Services: Maintain a dependable presence at your assigned station; greet guests and provide education regarding recreation site rules and regulations.
Compliance & Administration: Conduct camping fee compliance checks and ensure visitor adherence to forest guidelines.
Janitorial Services: Maintain high sanitation standards by cleaning restrooms, emptying refuse containers, and clearing fire rings.
Facility Maintenance: Perform routine lawn care, campsite upkeep, and general facility maintenance to ensure site safety and aesthetics.
Operational Standards: Adhere strictly to Task Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidelines.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Accommodations: Volunteers must provide their own well-maintained RV or travel trailer.
Commitment: A minimum stay of 2 months is required (6-month maximum).
Availability: Volunteers should expect to provide approximately 30 hours of service per week and remain available 24/7, including holidays, to address site needs (specific exceptions may be negotiated).
Physical Requirements: Candidates must be physically capable of performing manual labor, including frequent crouching, lifting heavy bags, and conducting outdoor maintenance in a climate that is mild but features hot, stormy summers.
Vetting: A comprehensive background check is required for all volunteers and accompanying spouses/partners prior to the start of the term.
Pets: Pets are permitted subject to review and approval prior to the confirmation of the volunteer position.

Onsite Amenities:

Full utility hookups (Electric, Water, and Sewer).
Onsite laundry facilities (Washer and Dryer).
Government-issued tools and equipment provided for all tasks.
Golf cart provided for official duties (at most locations).

Preferred Experience:

Preference is given to candidates with prior federal volunteer experience; however, all qualified applicants demonstrating a strong work ethic and professional demeanor will be considered. Training will be provided as available.
