JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Pocket Recreation area is located on the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in Northwest Georgia. The recreation area consists of a 26 site campground and a Picnic/Day Use Area with associated parking facilities. Facilities include flush toilets, a vault toilet, wildlife proof trash receptacles, water hydrants, picnic shelter, picnic sites, campsites, and information kiosks. The Pocket Campground is a Camping by Reservation Only Campground, requiring visitors to book campsites for camping.
The Pocket campground host is expected to stay at the site and is responsible for performing the following duties at both the Pocket campground and the adjacent Pocket Picnic/Day Use area:
Housing: Housing is NOT provided. Applicants must be able to provide their own RV or Travel Trailer. There is a designated host site with electric, water, and sewer hook-ups, along with overhead cover for your RV/Travel Trailer.
Public Contacts
- Greeting and assisting campers/visitors with information needs.
- Checking to ensure campers have reservations through Recreation.gov and informing them how to make reservations if wanting to book a site.
- Providing information and educating visitors regarding the rules and regulations of the area.
- Providing general cultural and historical information about the U.S. Forest Service and local area, along with other district recreational opportunities.
- Patrolling the area to OBSERVE compliance with regulations. Issues of non-compliance will be reported to the district’s recreation technician or LEO for further action.
Facilities Maintenance
- Checking and cleaning restrooms and vault toilets: replenishing paper supplies, cleaning toilets and sinks as needed, and sweeping and mopping restrooms.
- Checking bearproof trash can receptacles and changing out bags as needed.
- Reporting any plumbing issues: Occasional emergency plumbing tasks, such as unplugging a toilet, or shutting off water lines may be required if USFS personnel are not available on a timely basis.
- Assisting recreation technician with grass mowing and weed trimming activities as needed.
- Litter pick-up around the recreation area.
