Camp Host – Nature Center Docent

Volunteer at the Neal Taylor Nature Center and live at Cachuma Lake! Camp host needed for maintenance and yardwork June 2026 onward. Full hookup RV site included for 20 hours per week.

Would you like to contribute to a great organization while living in the spectacular environment of Cachuma Lake in Central California’s famous Wine Country? Just 20 minutes from Santa Barbara and the quaint Danish town of Solvang, the Neal Taylor Nature Center is a thriving nonprofit located within the popular Cachuma Lake Recreation Area.

The Nature Center attracts Cachuma Lake campers and locals mainly from the Central Coast, but also from all around the country and internationally. Many school groups come to the Center as a highlight of their field trip schedule. Our focus is on environmental education and bringing an appreciation of nature to all who visit.

We are looking for camp hosts to serve seasonally. Preferably 6 months but 3 months possible. Responsible, self-directed, organized, friendly people are always welcome to help here!

Depending on your abilities, Nature Center Camp Host duties may include:

Opening and closing the Nature Center
Cleaning
Running our gift shop
Leading group activities
Teaching school groups
Taking care of our plants, birds and fish
Maintenance and grounds
We are especially interested in folks who have experience or training working with and teaching youth.

Our camp hosts volunteer 20 hours a week at the Nature Center in exchange for a full-hookup RV site (water, electricity, sewer). Hours are somewhat flexible but revolve around the Center’s 10AM- 4PM Thursday-Saturday, 10AM- 2PM Sunday schedule.
