JOB DESCRIPTION:
Volunteer at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex this fall and winter! We’re seeking friendly volunteers to staff the visitor center front desk during peak bird watching and waterfowl hunting seasons. Typical tasks are to:
- Greet visitors and answer questions
- Help visitors purchase auto tour passes on their smartphones via Recreation.gov or the mobile app
- Open and close the visitor center
- Raise and lower the U.S. flag
- Keep things tidy (sweep, mop, dust, restock, etc.)
- Assist at special events or occasional weekday shifts as needed
- Answer phones (training on frequently asked questions will be provided)
The visitor center is open Fridays through Sundays, with some additional days during peak seasons. Located near Willows, CA, the refuge hosts millions of migrating waterfowl and offers wildlife observation, photography, hunting, fishing, environmental education, and interpretation opportunities. If you love nature and enjoy helping others, this is a rewarding way to get involved!
Please note: Background check and security clearance will be required for weekend volunteers.
HOUSING:
RV pads with water and electric hookups are available with a minimum six week commitment of 20 hours per week per resident; on a limited basis, a room in the bunkhouse may be available with the same term commitments. Trash and sewer service are provided. Tent camping is not allowed, nor are open fires. Dogs must be on leash at all times and are not allowed in some areas due to wildlife considerations.
