JOB DESCRIPTION:

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to provide friendly and effective customer service to visitors. Ability to research and understand Hohokam culture and the Casa Grande and explain it accurately and appropriately to visitors. Familiarity with Southwest culture, visitor travel destinations, and map reading is required. The volunteer in this position must be able to direct visitors to associated sites around the region. Retail skills are beneficial.

 

Must be able to walk around the grounds in warm weather, stand up to 60 minutes directing or controlling traffic or roving and talk with visitors throughout the day.

 

In addition, volunteers presenting interpretive programs will be required to perform in-depth academic research above the “basics.” Interpreters are expected to provide accurate and concise programs that will make the site meaningful to visitors and enable them to understand the significance of Casa Grande Ruins. Interpreters must be able to stand or walk up to 60 minutes at a time and project their voices so that small groups can hear and understand the presentation.

 

Time Commitment:  

-This opportunity is open throughout the year, though focused on the time period that is considered the busy season, and when weather is cooler temperatures.

-The volunteer will work at least 8 hours per week except during peak visitation or special events when more hours may be requested. 

-Volunteers living in CAGR RV Park (VIP Village) require 32 hours per week.

*The VIP Village has full hookups.

*Volunteers residing in VIP Village must have self-sustainable accommodations.

-Casa Grande Ruins or the volunteer may cancel their agreement at any time by notifying the other party.

 

Uniforms: A khaki or tan colored shirt or blouse with a volunteer patch, ball cap and nametag supplied by the Monument will be worn while on duty. Brown, tan, green, or beige pants in a complementary color will be supplied by the volunteer and worn with the volunteer shirt. For non-visitor contact duties or duties that may soil the uniform, the volunteer may be granted permission to wear other than the standard uniform on a case-by-case basis. Close toed shoes will be worn and must not detract from the uniform. Shorts are not authorized.

 

Supervision and Evaluation The volunteer will be officially supervised by the Volunteer Program Manager and/or division chief. Technical and evaluation recommendations will be provided by the staff member responsible for the project, with Volunteer in Parks Program oversight by the Volunteer Coordinator.
