ADDRESS: 2300 Park Road  Blacksburg, South Carolina, 29702

DATES: 1/7/2026 – 9/30/2026

DEPT: National Park Service

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Kings Mountain National Military Park is seeking enthusiastic, friendly volunteers to work in the park’s Visitor Center (VC) during the work week which for us is Wednesdays through Saturdays throughout the year excepting for several federal holidays! Many, many people visit the battlefield every year, and especially on weekends Most of those come to the park to walk the ground of a Patriot victory in the American Revolution that British General Sir Henry Clinton saw as the first link in a chain of evils that eventually resulted in the loss of America.

Visitor Center Hours: 9 am – 5 pm, Wednesday-Sunday

Duties include, but are not limited to: greeting park visitors, providing historical, cultural, and natural points of interest within the park and the surrounding area, providing guided tours of the battlefield, answering routine and repetitive questions, assisting with gift shop operations, maintaining a clean front desk and bookstore, counting visitors, explaining and providing Junior Ranger workbooks, operating audio-visual equipment, and helping with special events.  Volunteers may also participate in the parks living history program if desired.

Work Schedule: Local volunteers may be scheduled for days that are suitable for both them and the park and are mutually agreed upon. Rvers will be expected to provide 32 hours per week, usually 4 8-hour days.

Weather: Summers can be hot, humid, and buggy (mosquitoes). The Spring and Fall are cool with rainy periods. Winters are generally mild with occasional windy and cold nor’easter storms.

Transportation: Personal transportation is required to reach the park and local stores. No public transportation is available in the area.

Housing: The park has one RV pad available for volunteers who commit to between one and four months with possible extensions to the volunteer duration of service. All volunteers must commit to a certain number of work hours to be arrived at by them and park staff. RV occupants must commit to 32 hours per week, usually 4 8-hour days. If there is more than one RV occupant, work schedules can be either the same days, or other overlapping scheduling options can be considered. Each volunteer will require a separate agreement form. The park has no other housing options currently available.

Other Info: Work location is about 3 miles for a major interstate highway with several sizeable communities within 20 minutes driving. Both Charlotte NC and Greenville/Spartanburg SC are within a half-hours drive. A variety of restaurants, grocery stores, and other amenities are available within a few miles of the park. Cell phone, telephone, and satellite reception within the park can be erratic at times. Laundry is available for RVers who may also keep their pets.
