JOB DESCRIPTION:
Opportunity to host youth groups overnight at Volcano Adventure Camp. Help orient groups to the park, the camp, and serve as a communicator should any emergencies arise. Help monitor facility needs. Opportunity to help rangers lead programs, and facilitate portions of programs if interested. Possible opportunities to work with other divisions on occasion provided other priorities have been met. Volunteer will have 2 days off per week, days negotiable upon hiring. RV site is provided.
Should be friendly, eager to help, and good with kids. Must drive and work in a remote area in a safe manner. Must be self-sufficient in operating their own RV. Must have a valid State driver’s license to operate a park vehicle. Should have experience in dealing with emergencies in a calm, orderly way, and will be expected to do so should an emergency arise.
Rugged environment ranging from 5000 – 9000 feet above sea level. Temperatures average 40 degrees at night (but can get down to 32), 80 during the day (as high as 95). Volcano Adventure Camp is remote, with no cell service or wi-fi. Hosts are welcome to utilize their own devices attached to their vehicle(s) (not park property) for connectivity purposes. Fire danger is a concern during summer. Hiking trails can be steep and in rough terrain.
