Job Description

We are looking for farm labor:

  • Our farm has 250 acres and approximately 100+ head herd rotational grazing herdshare raw dairy & beef farm operation. We produce dairy products (fluid milk, butter, and cream), 100% grass-fed/finished beef, free-range chicken eggs, pastured poultry and pigs, honey, and seasonal produce as some of our farm products.  Our farming practices do not use herbicides or pesticides.

Also on the farm is a custom lumber operation which allows us to produce building materials for farm infrastructure projects.

Require ownership of duties, work in all types of weather, proactively engage in improving methods and processes, attention to detail, self-motivated, and able to work without supervision.

Part-time availabel if living off-farm and full-time if living on farm opportunities during the week and weekends. We will consider couples but both would be expected to work on the farm and may not have the same schedule.

Skills/Requirements/Expectations:

General Skills:

  • Willing to learn new skills and operate various pieces of equipment

Farm:

  • Fence building (permanent and temporary) for cattle
  • Equipment operation (tractors, hay equipment, loaders, small power and hand tools)
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Working with cattle (dairy and beef)
  • o  Rotational grazing
  • o   Assisting with calving and medical as needed
  • Milking cows and bottling (we are installing a robotic milker)
  • Working with pigs
  • o   Rotational grazing
  • o   Feeding/watering
  • Working with poultry
  • o   Moving poultry tractors daily on pasture
  • o   Processing and packaging broilers
  • o   Collecting, washing, and packaging eggs
  • Planting, maintaining, and harvesting produce in greenhouse
  • Assist with farm maintenance and building construction
  • Ability to assist with and learn equipment maintenance

Previous livestock farm experience IS necessary.

Skills in electrical, plumbing, building/carpentry, welding, and/or mechanical extremely helpful. We have a portable sawmill and associated equipment to produce lumber for the farm projects.

We can offer paid work along with a place to park your RV. We do not have a formal RV pad area, but there are options which could allow electric, water, and septic. Payment is commensurate with experience and work being done.

There is no smoking, vaping, or tobacco use of any kind on the property.

Our farm is in western Dinwiddie County, Virginia. We’re approximately 12 miles east of Blackstone and 35 miles west of Petersburg. The area itself is relatively rural, but all the basic necessities are within a 45 minute drive.
