JOB DESCRIPTION:
Join us in beautiful Washington state as a campground host this fall!
The BLM Wenatchee Field Office is looking for a volunteer campground host for our five high-use BLM campgrounds along the Yakima River in central Washington state. Campgrounds are spread along the river throughout the Yakima River Canyon and serve as day use river access sites. Four of the five are fee sites, charging day and overnight fees and reservations on www.recreation.gov. Campground Hosts help the BLM provide maintenance services, information to the public, as well as being a friendly presence at our facilities.
Volunteer Requirements
· Volunteer must provide own camper or RV. All sites are dry sites, with no hookups. The host site is a shady RV site located next to the river with a picnic table, fire ring, and fenced yard.
· Host must also be self-sufficient and have personal vehicle to use for grocery runs and any other personal needs.
· Be able to work outdoors standing for long periods of time in variable weather conditions. The sites are at an elevation of 2000 ft. and will be exposed to weather conditions ranging from 40 to 100+ degrees Fahrenheit.
· Possess a valid state driver’s license. Complete a defensive driving class, background check, and other trainings as needed.
Campground Host Duties
· The main duties will be to engage with visitors and ensure that they have a safe, enjoyable time at the recreation sites.
· Host is expected to be available during daytime and weekend hours as needed by recreation area users. Host is expected to start around Labor Day.
· Camp rate reimbursement of $38/day. Mileage rate of $.14/mile. There are no hookups available.
· If hosts are a couple, only one person is expected to be on duty (and can receive a financial reimbursement for days worked).
· Monitor fee requirements and compliance, conduct patrols of the campground and trails,
· Maintain and stock vault toilets and fee envelope boxes,
· Keep campgrounds presentable and grounds maintained to increase visitor’s positive experience.
· Be an ambassador for the BLM volunteer program.
· Occasionally, the host may be asked to assist with BLM operations outside of the Yakima River Canyon and other duties as assigned.
· Pets are only permitted if approved by BLM Supervisor PRIOR to accepting the position. Pets must be leashed at all times and host must clean up pet waste.
