Volunteer Site Host

The Bureau of Land Management Tucson Field Office is advertising a site host volunteer position at the Fairbank Historic Townsite located on the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area. This position is for the summer position beginning in April 2023 through September 2023.

The volunteer duties include meeting and greeting the public who are visiting the Fairbank Townsite, maintenance and operations of the grounds and facilities at Fairbank and monitoring recreational use and site conditions. Work is mostly outside on the grounds of the Fairbank Townsite, including the connected trails to the San Pedro River and Fairbank Loop. The summer season is typically warm and cloudy. Summer monsoon storms typically occur from June to September and can lower the daytime temperatures from upper 90s to the lower 70s. Access in and out of the Fairbank Townsite is from Arizona State Highway 82. The nearest town is Tombstone which is about 15 minutes away and the nearest city is Sierra Vista which is a 30–45-minute drive.

The Bureau of Land Management would furnish a private area that is fenced for site host privacy. The site host area can furnish a mid-size RV or travel trailer. The volunteer is provided water hook up, electrical hook up, and septic hook up. Propane is provided by the BLM, but it is the responsibility for the site host to refill the tanks. Volunteer hat or vest is provided as a volunteer representative for the BLM.

The time commitment is up to six months, and the site host position requires a minimum of a three-month commitment. The site host volunteer is required to be on duty during weekends and holidays since this is when public visitation at its peak would occur. The BLM requests at least 25 hours of volunteer services per week in the position and time off can be requested through the BLM Park Ranger.
