DEPT: Forest Service

DATES: 5/1/2021 – 9/30/2021

DESCRIPTION: “A campground host is a seasonal volunteer who agrees to serve in a National Forest campground. Hosts are friendly, enjoy the outdoors and are eager to learn and share their knowledge.”

“The Great Divide Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is looking for a motivated volunteer to serve as a campground host at Namekagon Campground. The campground is located in northwest Wisconsin, near the towns of Cable and Hayward.

If you are interested in a bustling campground and excellent fishing, then Namekagon Campground is just the right place for you. Campsites are situated within a hardwood and hemlock forest.

Namekagon Campground is located on the northwest side of Lake Namekagon. The 3,227 acre lake has plenty of good fishing for musky, walleye, pike, bass, and panfish. Lake Namekagon is the headwaters to the scenic Namekagon River. There is a hiking trail across the street from the campground, and the North Country National Scenic Trail is close to the campground. There are also CAMBA mountain bike trails nearby. The lake also provides a great place for your kayak or canoe. Much wildlife can be viewed from the shores on the lake. There is a sandy swim area, grassy picnic area, picnic shelter and boat landing at the campground.

There are 34 campsites available at Namekagon Campground. Twenty of the sites have electric hookups. The campground has two loops with waterfront campsites, and more secluded sites located in the woods. Sites can be used for tents and RV camping. Each site has a campfire ring and a picnic table. Vault toilets and drinking water is also available. The campground has trash collection and a recycling area.

Fuel, fishing supplies, firewood, ice, and restaurants are within 12 miles of this campground, in the town Cable.
