DESCRIPTION:
Seeking campground hosts for Seal Rock and Big Creek Campgrounds on the east side of the Olympic Peninsula, Washington.
Campground hosts are responsible for greeting visitors in a friendly, service-first attitude while maintaining adequate social distancing procedures. Should be available to answer visitor questions within reasonable hours, typically 9am-7pm, and remain on site 5 days per week, typically Thursday – Monday. Daily duties will include checking/filling toilet paper, sweeping/mopping restroom floors, cleaning bathroom toilets and picking up litter within the campground. Other duties performed as needed includes removing cobwebs and hornets nests from buildings, cleaning campfire pits and grills, and trimming brush along trails. Any issues or concerns should be conveyed to the District Recreation Manager and Staff.
Stipend rates for non-locals for these positions is $30/day worked for a single person, or $20/day for a couple. Propane use will also be reimbursed. The camp host sites at both Seal Rock and Big Creek Campgrounds have full RV utility hookups. A Forest Service volunteer name tag, badge and vest will be issued upon arrival and returned at the end of the season. The camp host site will be cordoned off with stanchions and a table with a bell will be provided for visitors to let you know they need assistance, to aid in social distancing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Seal Rock Campground is located near Quilcene, Washington directly on the Hood Canal, adjacent to Highway 101. It is one of the few national forest campgrounds located on salt water with harvestable oysters for public use. There are 41 tent/RV sites spaced among the trees with several along the waterfront. It offers fresh piped water, flush toilets, electricity in the restrooms and tables and fire pits at each site. Garbage cans are spaced throughout campground. There is also a day use area within the campground that offers two accessible interpretive trails. All sites are first-come, first-served.
Big Creek Campground is located west of Hoodsport, Washington. Campsites will accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. The 64 camp units are spaced for privacy in a second-growth forested area. Big Creek, a small stream, is adjacent to the campground. Fires in developed campsites only. Three covered picnic shelters are available for group–day use only. Hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, swimming, and exceptional scenery can be enjoyed in the area. Lake Cushman and the Staircase entrance to Olympic National Park are nearby with a public boat ramp available in vicinity. A trailhead within the campground accesses two loop trails and connects to the Mt. Elinor trail.
