DESCRIPTION:
Cedar Breaks Volunteer Campground Hosts perform a variety of duties to assist park staff in keeping the campground running smoothly. Hosts are the primary source of information and assistance for campers at the Point Supreme Campground. Hosts are a vital part of the visitor experience at the campground and can ensure visitors have a enriching experience.
Volunteer Expectations:
- Volunteers must observe all park rules and regulations while working at Cedar Breaks National Monument.
- Familiarize themselves with National Park Service regulations and policies.
- Professionally represent the National Park Service.
- Record and submit work hours and visitor contacts to supervisor
- Report any injuries sustained while on duty to a supervisor immediately.
- Delay could result in loss of claim.
- Be able to pass a criminal background check depending on the exact nature of duties
- Perform all duties safely and promote a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace environment
Length of Commitment:
- The Point Supreme Campground is open June 19 – September 19.
- Start and stop dates are flexible, but this opportunity is specifically targeted for the beginning of the season.
- Campground Hosts must commit to work at least 32 hours per week to be provided with an RV pad in the campground with full hookups.
Tools, Equipment, and Vehicles to be Operated:
Volunteer Campground Hosts will operate a small campground vehicle to move to the maintenance area and ranger station when needed to complete duties.

Physical Requirements of Work:
- While on duty, volunteers must wear the provided park VIP uniform and a name badge.
- No patches or insignias other than the NPS VIP logo may be affixed to the uniform.
- Brown, tan, or other neutral colored pants and shoes must be supplied by the volunteer and worn with the shirt/jacket.
- VIPs must not wear any part of the official NPS uniform or be dressed in a manner that attempts to duplicate its appearance.
- Duties include sitting or standing for extended periods of time outside, and may require moderate physical exertion (such as hiking over steep and uneven trails) and/or carrying and lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Most work is performed outdoors at an elevation of over 10,000 feet.
- The incumbent may be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures, high winds, rain, snow, smoke, or hail during their work hours.

Scope of Contacts:
Volunteer will have many daily contacts with visitors in and around the campground.
Brief Description of Work to be Performed:
- Greeting campers professionally and courteously upon arrival or shortly after.
- Assist campers with finding, paying, and registering for a campsite via recreation.gov.
- Patrol campground regularly to educate visitors and ensure compliance with park rules and regulations, and to resolve minor disputes.
- Report major disputes immediately to law enforcement.
- Post reservation signs at campsites.
- Basic custodial duties of the campground and restrooms.
- Operate a government vehicle between campground, maintenance yard, and ranger station.
- Other collateral duties as assigned by the Chief of Visitor Services.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and as part of a team for extended periods of time.
- Ability to maintain a positive and calm demeanor in stressful situations.
- A valid driver’s license
- Be physically fit for duties assigned
Cedar Breaks National Monument is located outside of Cedar City, UT, near Brian Head. Most park facilities and operations are located above 10,000ft. Summer-time highs are between 60 and 70°F and night-time lows dip to 30-40s°F. Thunderstorms frequently develop in the afternoons. Cedar City, approximately 18 miles from the park has several necessary amenities including grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, clinics, etc. Personal transportation is necessary to get to and from the park, public transportation is extremely limited in the area and does not extend to the park. Visitation at the park has drastically increased over the last five years and the trend is expected to continue. Construction of a new visitor contact station is projected to begin in summer 2021 and will significantly impact operations.
