DESCRIPTION:
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Cottonwood Idaho Field Office is seeking a highly motivated Volunteer Campground Host for the Hammer Creek Campground/Recreation Site, located approximately 3 miles west from White Bird, Idaho. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and help manage a campground along the beautiful Lower Salmon River!
Hammer Creek Campground/Recreation Site, which consists of 12 non-reservable fee campsites, is also a popular put-in location for river boating and fishing along the Lower Salmon River. Average visitation to the site is over 50,000 people per year – using the boat ramp to launch for multi-day river trips and camping.
The Volunteer Campground Host will serve as an official BLM representative at the Hammer Creek Campground and Recreation Site. He/she greets visitors, provides information to the public, and helps with site management. Looking for someone from fist part of May thru Nov.
DUTIES
Daily tasks include but are not limited to:
· Welcoming visitors and answering questions about the site and area
· Restocking toilet paper, fee envelopes, and permits
· Performing grounds/landscape maintenance
· Cleaning restrooms, picnic tables, fire pits, and grills
· Picking up litter
· Communicating visitor conflicts to BLM staff
· Performing light maintenance
Grounds/landscape maintenance consists of using weed trimmers, weed sprayers, and mowing the grass with a riding lawn and minor painting. The Volunteer Campground Host must be able to bend, lift and walk comfortably. Ability to use tools such as rakes, brooms, pruners, shovels, hand, and power tools is required.
*This position does not handle money or provide enforcement; enforcement issues or violations are reported to BLM Law Enforcement Ranger.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should have strong customer service skills and have a high level of oral communication. Applicants are required to furnish a travel trailer or motorhome that is in good visual working and running condition. A background investigation will be completed prior to arrival. The Volunteer Campground Host represents the BLM and are often the first contact person that visitors encounter on their stay. As such, the Volunteer Campground Host must be neat, professional, and friendly. The Volunteer Campground Host will assist visitors, record user information, and perform minor daily upkeep of the campground/recreation grounds and ensure its restrooms are clean and safe.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
All work is outdoors in a developed recreation site. Hammer Creek Campground and Recreation Site includes 12 non-reservable fee campsites and includes the following amenities: picnic tables, fire ring, day use area with picnic tables and a BBQ grill, two vault and two flush toilets, 2 changing rooms, 1 well/pump house building, interpretive panels, kiosks, a boat ramp, large parking lot for day and overnight parking, one RV dump station, and drinking water.
Primary recreation activities at Hammer Creek Campground and Recreation Site include camping, picnicking, fishing, walking, white water float boating and power boating.
During the summer months of July-September, you can expect temperatures to be in the 90’s and often exceed 100+ degrees.
The BLM would provide an isolated full RV 50/30-amp hookup camping spot with water, electricity, propane, and sewer for the camp host. There will be a monthly reimbursement stipend for food. There is no internet provided, but the site has cell service. The BLM is seeking the Volunteer Campground Host to live on site from March through November. The Volunteer Campground Host will need to supply their own a travel trailer or motorhome.
Time Commitment:
Thursday through Monday as well as major holidays. Anticipated a minimum of 30 hours per week. The Volunteer Campground Host is expected to be committed to their duties at the recreation area and be available during daytime and weekend hours, therefore outside work or existing jobs are not permitted while being a Host for the BLM.
