DATES: 5/10/2021 – 10/31/2021
DESCRIPTION:
Provide campground hosting for Historic Patrick Creek Campground on the Smith River NRA.

Patrick Creek Campground sits at the confluence of Patrick Creek and the middle fork of Smith River in the vast Six Rivers National Forest of northern California. The campground has a special charm, with steps, rock walls, restrooms and sunken campfire circles built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
The campground offers multiple single-family accessible campsites, available for tent and RV camping (13 Sites). The campsites are situated on a flat about 30 feet above the river. From the campground, the river can only be viewed from sites 7, 8, 9, and 12 looking down over a fence and vertical bank. Short trails provide access to the river.
No potable water is available at this campground. Tables and campfire rings with grills are provided. Accessible flush toilets and drinking water are also available. Day use area as well.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This volunteer opportunity is on the Six Rivers National Forest, Smith River National Recreation Area. Smith River National Recreation Area is located within the Six Rivers National Forest in northwestern California. This 305,337-acre National Recreation Area (NRA) was designated by Congress in November 1990 to protect the area’s special scenic value, natural diversity, cultural and historical attributes, wilderness, wildlife, fisheries, and the Smith River watershed’s clean waters.
Recreational activities abound in the Smith River National Recreation Area or NRA. The beautiful Smith River offers fishing for steelhead, trout, and salmon. During the summer months, the pure, clean waters of the Smith River are perfect for swimming, rafting, or fishing and the forested mountainsides present occasions for hiking, bird watching, wildflower walks, or perhaps just lounging in the sun.
Summers are dry with highs in the 80-100°F degree range. Contact the NRA Headquarters at the Gasquet Ranger Station for current weather conditions.
