Seeking to fill an immediate need for a janitorial/grounds maintenance volunteer; can be an individual or a couple, 25+ hrs/wk/person, full hook-up RV site with water, sewer, and propane.
Do you want to spend time along the beautiful Snake River? This opportunity might be the perfect fit for you. The US Army Corps of Engineers Lower Granite Lock and Dam Project (Lower Granite), Natural Resources Management (NRM) is seeking volunteer(s) for park janitorial/grounds maintenance. Both individuals and couples are welcome to apply. Position is located at Swallows Park in Clarkston, WA, Primary duties include locking/unlocking gates and restrooms early morning and evening, cleaning restrooms, filling dog bag dispensers, emptying garbage cans, general cleaning, picking up litter, cleaning fire pits, etc. Use of Lower Granite NRM’s ATV and GSA Vehicles is authorized once appropriate training has been completed.
Volunteers will need to provide their own RV or trailer. This opportunity includes a full hook-up RV site with water, sewer, electric (50amp max), and propane in exchange for 25+ hrs./wk./person. High visitation may require weekend and holiday work. The RV sites are located on the South edge of Clarkston, Washington, so reliable cell phone service with most major providers is available. The housing location is in a park like setting but close to all the major conveniences in either Lewiston, ID or Clarkston, WA (stores, restaurants, hospitals, etc.). Wi-Fi is not available at the RV sites, but previous RV volunteers have been successful using their own Wi-Fi hotspots.
Also included: all necessary uniform components, and safety equipment (vest, hard hat, etc.) as well as access to limited storage and free laundry facilities (washer/dryer). Travel to Clarkston is reimbursed if the volunteer agreement is fulfilled. 6-month commitment required, capped at two years, needed as soon as possible. DUTIES
Primary duties include unlocking and locking restrooms and park gates, cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage cans and picking up litter at Swallows Park, Chestnut Park, Greenbelt, Lewiston Levee, Asotin Boat Ramp, plus grounds maintenance (including bathroom cleaning, litter pickup, boat ramp debris removal, fire ring cleaning) at the Northshore locations (Wawawai, Blyton and Nisqually John landings and all associated disbursed sites) along with monitoring of occupancy in the Northshore locations.
• Monthly reading/data collection of traffic and trail counters.
• If time permits, additional grounds maintenance tasks may include, but are not limited to, painting, graffiti removal and generally assisting the maintenance crew at the Clarkston Natural Resources Management office.
• Put forth a professional image as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers front liner while working in the field.
• Maintaining/repairing recreation amenities at day use areas, trails, campgrounds, shelters, habitat management units, etc.
• Maintain and inventory volunteer supplies, tools and equipment.
• Serve as a “model user” and set an example by practicing good housekeeping in and around their RV site, and by observing all agency rules and regulations.
• Become familiar with local points of interest and the location of services and amenities that might be requested by visitors, such as marinas, grocery stores, restrooms, camping areas, tourist attractions, local events, etc.
• Occasionally assist with vehicle and boat patrols.
• Be familiar with emergency and safety procedures.
• Be observant and provide information to NRM Staff about potential recreation safety issues, or problematic visitors.
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Pleasant and professional manner, communication skills, valid driver’s license, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability, team player, can work independently, and be able to physically work in the realm of light duty maintenance, grounds keeping and janitorial services.
